Step by Step

Your ticket to the SUMMIT One Vanderbilt observatory unlocks the kind of experience that defines a trip. The one you tell your friends about first. The one that springs to mind whenever you think of the city. The one you know you'll come back to someday.

Beyond being one of New York's most popular attractions, SUMMIT is also one of its newest. The observatory opened in 2021 and has been leaving visitors awestruck ever since. Let's start from the beginning.

The building soars 93 floors high, and the observatory occupies the top three. Your journey skyward begins on the 91st floor, over 1,000 feet above street level. That's where the Rise elevators will deliver you, and the moment you step out, you'll be greeted by breathtaking mirrored galleries created by artist Yayoi Kusama. This might just be the most thrilling part of the entire experience—especially on a clear day, when the interplay of light and reflections from the surrounding skyscrapers transports you to another dimension. And the views? They're still to come.

On the 92nd floor, Manhattan unfolds at your feet from two 360-degree observation decks. Whether spotting iconic landmarks like the Chrysler Building or the Empire State brings a smile to your face or leaves your jaw on the floor, save some energy—your visit isn't over yet.

The top floor, the 93rd, features an outdoor terrace with some of the best panoramic views in all of New York. You can also browse the gift shop or grab a drink at a café designed by the renowned Norwegian firm Snøhetta. When we tell you their architects, designers, and artists are behind projects like the Library of Alexandria in Egypt, you'll understand why it's worth stopping by. Want to elevate the experience even more? Book the ticket with drink option and savor a signature cocktail at Après, the café-bar on that floor.

Sounds pretty amazing, right?

I came away with loads of photos and also with the feeling of having seen New York from a different angle. The top floor was the perfect place to round off the visit at a leisurely pace.

The lift ride is incredibly quick and, as soon as you step out at the top, you’re suddenly confronted with all these reflections. It’s a very visual experience, ideal for taking your time.

I really enjoyed it, although some areas get crowded quickly and lose a bit of their magic. Even so, the views and Levitation made it all worthwhile.

We visited on a clear day and it was a great choice. Yayoi Kusama’s galleries have an atmosphere that is both strange and beautiful, very different from the usual.
