Step by Step
Get to know the Neapolitan folk culture with this approximately two and a half hour tour through the mysteries and legends of Naples . Together with a professional guide you will walk through the historic centre of Naples and pass by some of the city's most remarkable historical sites. In small groups of about 15 people walk through the liveliest streets of Naples and see beautiful Neapolitan sculptures and precious Gothic and Baroque churches.
You will start this walking tour together with your group and guide from Piazza Bellini, in the historic centre of Naples. From this small square, with about four terraces offering live music in the evening, you will pass by the Conservatory of San Pietro a Maiella, one of the most famous music academies in Southern Italy and also a historical museum with a fascinating history.
With your group you will stroll along Via dei Tribunali, one of the liveliest and richest streets of Naples and admire the beautiful Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore della Pietrasanta, with its ancient Romanesque bell tower dating back to the 11th century. Stop to admire this religious building in baroque style and continue your walk to see other historical monuments such as the small Chapel of Pontano, a real jewel of the Neapolitan Renaissance.
You will also discover one of the most enigmatic and visited spaces in Naples, the Chapel of San Severo, one of the main museums of Naples. While contemplating this jewel of Baroque art, listen to your guide about the "black legend" related to the extraordinary life of Raimondo di Sangro, the seventh prince of Sansevero. This chapel, restored by the prince, is today the most important and famous museum in Naples as it houses the magnificent sculpture of the Veiled Christ.
In the heart of the ancient centre of Naples you will also pass through one of the most mystical places, the museum complex of the Purgatory in Arco, a small Baroque church dedicated to the cult of the souls in purgatory. Along this route you will also see emblematic buildings such as the Cathedral of Naples and the monumental Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore, one of the oldest churches in the city, where you will find archaeological remains of great value.
