There are several options for getting between Beijing's nearby airports and the city centre. You can use the metro system, the bus system, private transport or the taxi system available to passengers.

I'll tell you a little more about each of the options you have to get to the city centre and start enjoying the best things to see and do in Beijing.

The private transfer, for more comfort and exclusivity

Without a doubt, one of the best ways to get from any airport to the city of Beijing are private transfers. This type of transfer can be booked online and is one of the best ways to overcome the language barrier.

With this type of transfer, your private driver will be waiting for you at the air terminal where you are arriving to take you to your next destination in the city.

This type of transfer can be booked at either of the two airports located near Beijing: Beijing International Airport or Beijing Daxing Airport, which is the new airport located near the city.

Interesting details

  • Travel time: from 45 minutes to one hour and 20 minutes, depending on which airport your transfer departs from. From Beijing Daxing Airport it may take a little longer.
  • Price: between 30 and 60 euros, depending on the number of people you are travelling with.
  • Advantages of using this method: you can book it online, you won't have to wait at the airport and you won't have problems with the amount of luggage.
  • How to book this method of transport: you can book online on the website where the service is offered and make the reservation. Once you are in Beijing, all you have to do is find the person who will be waiting for you at the airport to take you to the city.
  • Recommended if... You feel that language is a barrier and you want to travel comfortably.

The train, the fastest option

If you are looking for an easy and, above all, very fast way to get from the airport to the city centre, your option is the train. But, in this case, the train works differently depending on which airport you want to get to the city centre from.

Beijing International Airport

In the case of Beijing International Airport, you have the option of the Airport Express, whose terminals and lines connect directly with the city and with the metro lines that operate within it.

This train route has four stops: Terminal 3, Terminal 2, Sanyuanqiao and Dongzhimen. The train departs daily from the first station and, after a few minutes, passes through Terminal 2. Both terminals are located in the vicinity of the airport, so it is some of these two where you would have to board your transport.

Once you exit this pair of terminals, you will continue to the next two stations, which are the ones that go into the city of Beijing and link to the metro lines that operate within the city.

Andressa's Traveller Tip

If you are carrying a lot of luggage, I recommend you not to board the train during rush hour because it will be very difficult to carry your luggage in the midst of so many people.

Beijing Daxing Airport

One of the advantages of the new Beijing Daxing Airport is that you can get from the airport to the city centre by bullet train.

To get on the bullet train , you will have to go to the first floor of the airport, but not before going to the first floor to buy your train tickets. Once you have your ticket, you can board the train in your chosen category, either economy, first class or business class.

The Beijing-Xiong'an Intercity bullet train connects the airport to Beijing West Railway Station. To get to the city centre from Beijing West Railway Station, you have two options: take a taxi or continue by train, which will take a little longer to reach Tiananmen Square, from where you can visit the Lost City.

Interesting details

Another really affordable option to get from the airport to Beijing city centre is to get on a city bus, also known as a shuttle bus.

One of the things you need to know about this type of transport is that neither the drivers nor the passengers on this type of bus usually speak English, so maybe the language is a barrier for you in this case. Either way, it's useful to know which lines can get you to the city centre.

  • From Beijing International Airport you can find at least 16 bus lines that will take you to the city centre. In fact, some of them operate during the night.
  • If you travel from Beijing Daxing Airport you have the opportunity to reach the city centre thanks to the six urban transport lines that you can find at the airport. And the advantage they have is that there is even an exclusive night line, which works until the last flight arriving at the airport every night.

Interesting details

  • Price: between 2 and 4 euros to use the bus service, the price varies depending on the line and the airport you depart from.
  • Advantages of using this method: it allows you to better appreciate the scenery between the airport and the city centre, you can say that it is a kind of tour before you start to get to know the city properly.
  • How to book this method of transport: you will have to buy your tickets at the airport ticket office.

A taxi or an Uber, a quick option

You must carry the address of your hotel or place you want to get to in the city centre in Chinese because, otherwise, the drivers will not understand you. You should also be aware that to get into a taxi or uber, you should bring yuan with you if you want to pay in cash, as they will not accept any foreign currency.

Also, you should take into consideration that there is usually a lot of demand for these services at the airport, so you may have to wait a bit to get into a car and continue to your destination.

It is also important that you know how to identify when it is an official car and when it is not. To find out , you can look at the stickers that the car should have. This way you will avoid bad experiences.

Details of interest
