Step by Step
Start your experience by seeing San Francisco from an open-top double-decker bus – a comfortable way to enjoy the city as its major landmarks come into view. The tour takes in such recognisable areas as Chinatown, the famous Painted Ladies and Lombard Street.
During the journey, you can make the most of the seats on the upper deck to get a better view of the streets, the architecture and the city’s skyline. The commentary on board rounds off the experience with stories and interesting facts about the sights you’re seeing.
The second part of the tour takes you to Alcatraz, one of San Francisco’s most iconic attractions. The ticket includes a return ferry journey from Pier 33, so all you need to do is head to the pier at the specified time to begin your crossing of the bay.
Once on the island, you’ll enter the Cellhouse, the prison’s former cell block. There, you can walk through the corridors, view the cells and listen to stories about former inmates and prison staff thanks to the included audio guide.
This combination works very well for those who want to get a good overview of San Francisco whilst also setting aside part of the day to explore one of the bay area’s most famous historic sites.
Reviews
- PP.A very comprehensive and entertaining experience. The visit to Alcatraz has that historical and somewhat unsettling quality that sets it apart.
- EE.I’ll stick with the ferry ride to Alcatraz and the views of the bay. The bus tour was a good way to get to know the city.
- TT.The logistics were fine, although the meeting point initially gave us a bit of a worry. Once there, everything went smoothly.
- II.It was a busy but lovely day. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes because you end up walking further on Alcatraz than you might think.
