Ibiza is the most famous of the Balearic Islands and has become popular based on its luxury yachts, marathon parties and paradisiacal beaches, but it is also a family destination par excellence and among the best things to see and do in Ibiza many include the possibility of enjoying them with children.

From visiting an adventure park to exploring the old walled city, family beaches, aquariums, caves and street markets, the options for getting to know the island if you're planning to visit Ibiza with children are very varied. Here I tell you about the best alternatives so that you can decide which ones you want to include in your travel plan.

1. Take a family adventure boat trip in San Antonio

On these child-focused excursions you can enjoy a family experience aboard a boat that cruises the bay of San Antonio, on the west coast of the island, with the assistance of a crew who will teach children about Ibiza's marine fauna on a guided snorkelling tour.

These excursions usually include lunch and a treasure hunt experience for the children, plus a snorkelling tour for the adults and one of the best boat trips in Ibiza.

These tours start in the morning at the Port of San Antonio and usually take in Toore d'en Rovira, Punta Galera and Cala Bassa Beach, which is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island with its white sand and crystal clear waters.

These excursions last approximately 4 hours and have reduced rates for children. All tours include the elements of snorkelling for children and adults, treasure hunt tour and underwater drone demonstration, in an experience for the whole family.

2. Get to know Cala Llonga Beach

Cala Llonga Beach, in the quiet area of Santa Eulalia del Río, is one of the best kept secrets of Ibizan families. This beach, which stands out for being one of the longest on the island, is ideal for visiting with children as it is surrounded by tourist services, restaurants and children's playgrounds.

Cala Llonga is also off the main party circuit of the island, making it a quiet place to enjoy with the family. Here you can experience some of Ibiza's best snorkelling and scuba diving. You can also do stand up paddle surfing and water sports.

If you plan to stay in the island's capital, you can get to Cala Llonga on the Alsa L10 and Alsa L14 city buses or on Ibiza's hop-on-hop-off tourist buses as long as they stop in Santa Eulalia del Río.

If you are planning to visit Ibiza with very young children, one of the best plans is to visit one of the island's water parks. There the children can lose themselves among the slides and water attractions, in safe places, and enjoy the water games for a whole morning or afternoon.

There are several water parks available in Ibiza, but one of the most famous in Port de Torrent is Sirenis Aquagames, a place that stands out for its towers with platforms of more than 10 metres, its themed children's areas and the children's pools, which are full of animal figures and Caribbean ornamentation.

You can also visit Aguamar, located in Playa d'en Bossa, which has a pirate theme and is aimed at older children than Sirenis Aquagames, offering snorkelling and treasure hunts.

These parks are ideal if you are planning to visit Ibiza in summer as this is when all the attractions are available. They also have reduced rates for children under the age of 13.

4. Tour Dalt Vila, Ibiza's historic old town

Ibiza has some magical places that children will love and one of them is Dalt Vila, the old walled city in the island's capital. This walled city is one of the oldest in Spain and is home to some of Ibiza's main landmarks such as the Cathedral, the Castle and the Plaza de Armas.

The old walled city is one of the must-see sights because it preserves the history of Ibiza since its foundation and also because it offers another side of the island, away from the luxury yachts and marathon days of parties. There are many ways to get around Dalt Vila, but perhaps one of the most comfortable and effective is with one of the bike tours in Ibiza.

In the areas surrounding Dalt Vila you can also visit the Necropolis, Paseo Vara del Rey, Portal Nou and Parc de la Pau, which is the green lung of the island's capital. You can also visit the Marina, which is the port of Ibiza, the place where some of the most luxurious yachts in Europe are moored and from where you can take a boat trip in Ibiza

5. Get to know the Natural Park of Las Salinas

The Natural Park of Ses Salines is one of the most striking in Spain because it not only includes a wide diversity of marine and terrestrial flora and fauna, but it also extends from the south of Ibiza to the north of Formentera, so its domain also includes the marine arm that separates the two islands.

This natural reserve of Mediterranean biodiversity can be visited on guided excursions that will amaze children and adults alike, as its areas also include one of the largest salt flats in the country and one of the most varied terrestrial and marine habitats in the world.

Las Salinas Natural Park is one of the most interesting nature trails in the Balearic Islands and one of the few ecological activities the island has to offer, although you should bear in mind that as it covers such a large area it can take you several days to get to know it in depth, a fact you should bear in mind if you are planning a short stay on the island. If that's your case, here's a list of things to see and do in Ibiza in a 3-day stay.

The Cap Blanc Aquarium is not only the most famous aquarium in the Balearic Islands but also the most striking because it is located inside a natural cave that has become the habitat of groupers, julias, octopuses, rays, sea sponges and polymers of all kinds that can be visited in the exhibits of its six fish tanks.

Touring the aquarium is one of the ideal plans if you plan to visit Ibiza with children because of its interactive exhibits and also, because of its location near the port of San Antonio, it is a perfect excursion if you plan to do another activity in the area such as an excursionto Es Vedrá or a diving experience.

During the summer, the Cap Blanc Aquarium is open every day between 10am and 5pm and has a reduced rate for children. If you plan to visit Ibiza in winter, please note that the opening hours may change.

The complete tour of the aquarium will take you approximately 2 to 3 hours, so it is a compatible excursion if you are planning a short stay in Ibiza.

In the paddle surf experiences in Cala de Sa Ferradura or Cala Codolar it is also possible to complete the sunset from the waters of the coast.

Ibiza is an ideal place for a stand up paddle surfing experience as its calm waters make it easy to do this water sport popularised by celebrities and which can be practised on all the island's beaches.

Bear in mind that good weather is necessary for a stand up paddle surfing excursion , so you'll need to consider this when organising your trip itinerary. If you are planning to travel to Ibiza in November or in the winter months these tours may not be available or may be cancelled due to bad weather.

Cala Xuclar is an essential stop on the hiking route along the north coast of Ibiza and is also one of the last unspoilt coves on the island, with large areas for relaxation, rocky areas, pine forests and the caves, which face the sea and form natural balconies from where it is possible to take some of the best photographs of Ibiza.

Cala Xuclar is also a quiet area ideal for visiting with children, as it is far from the tourist centres and the busiest beaches. At the same time it offers a natural environment that attracts both adults and children, making it one of the best things to do in Ibiza.

Cala Xuclar is located on the northern tip of the island and is a destination suitable for visiting all year round, although it is ideal to visit in summer, when the weather improves and this fishermen's anchorage recovers all its splendour.
