Step by Step
This free tour of the Albaicín and Sacromonte is the perfect way to discover two of Granada’s most iconic historic neighbourhoods. The tour begins in the Plaza de Santa Ana, from where you’ll venture into a maze of narrow, cobbled streets that preserve centuries of history and the legacy of the cultures that have shaped the city.
In the Albaicín, you’ll discover ancient cisterns, Mudejar-style churches, traditional Granada ‘cármenes’ and historic sites such as the Bañuelo. One of the most eagerly anticipated moments will come at the Mirador de San Nicolás, from where you can admire one of the most famous panoramic views of the Alhambra, with the Sierra Nevada and the city as a backdrop.
The tour continues to Sacromonte, a neighbourhood closely linked to the flamenco tradition and known for its characteristic cave houses carved into the mountainside. You’ll stroll along the Camino del Sacromonte, discover spots such as the Peña de la Platería and the statue of Chorrojumo, and enjoy fresh perspectives of the Alhambra and the Granada valley.
The tour also takes in places such as the Paseo de los Tristes, the Carrera del Darro and various less crowded viewpoints. Over the course of approximately 2 hours, the guide will weave together history, interesting facts and local traditions to help you understand why these neighbourhoods are an essential part of Granada’s identity.
