Step by Step

This tour in the northwest of Madeira is an invitation to discover one of the most amazing areas of the island from a much more adventurous perspective. On board an open-top 4x4, you will travel through rugged landscapes, secondary roads and natural corners where the intense green of the forest blends with the strength of the ocean and the volcanic origin of the territory.

The route starts in Serra d'Água, a deep valley that marks the contrast between the mountainous massif and the island's great plateau. From there, the route heads northwest, a region where waterfalls seem to merge with the sea and where lava has formed natural pools of intense colour. The jeep ride adds a much more exciting character to the experience and allows you to reach less frequented viewpoints and trails.

One of the highlights of the day is Paul da Serra, an extensive high plateau that shows a more open and wild side of Madeira. Nearby is the impressive Fanal Forest, one of those places that seem to be shrouded in magic. Its ancient laurel trees, covered in moss and surrounded by mist at many times of the year, create an almost unreal atmosphere that makes this one of the most memorable stops on the route.

The route continues to Porto Moniz, famous for its volcanic pools, shaped over centuries by the rock and the force of the Atlantic. Here the scenery becomes even more spectacular, with the ocean breaking alongside the lava formations and a very characteristic image of Madeira's north coast. Further on, the excursion also takes you to Poço das Lesmas and the Véu da Noiva waterfall in Seixal, where the water cascades down an almost vertical cliff before reaching the sea.

Throughout the day you can also enjoy moments linked to the famous levadas, Madeira's historic irrigation canals, accompanied by particularly beautiful scenery. All this makes the excursion a very complete experience, perfect for those who want to combine nature, adventure and some of the island's most spectacular scenery in a single day.

Although the experience did not turn out to be as good as I had hoped, I have to admit that I really enjoyed the time I spent observing the plateaus at Paul da Serra. A good tour to do once.

A very complete excursion in an all-terrain vehicle, quite comfortable to do and that allows you to visit a great variety of places in just one day and enjoy each one of them very much. Highly recommended for everyone.
