Step by Step

You’ll set off from Kraków in a comfortable, air-conditioned coach, where a coordinator will welcome you, go over the itinerary and hand out information leaflets in the language you chose when making your booking.

The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the Auschwitz I site, the original camp where the prisoners’ barracks, the SS prison and the famous Gate of Death are still preserved.

On arrival, you’ll begin your self-guided tour with the leaflet in hand, visiting Blocks 4 and 5, now converted into museums displaying the victims’ personal belongings: suitcases, glasses, utensils and shoes. These blocks will help you understand the scale of the deportation and the extreme living conditions they endured. You’ll be able to stop and read each section at your own pace before moving on.

You will then head to the Auschwitz II–Birkenau area, the vast extermination camp. Here you will walk along the unloading ramp, past the ruins of the crematoria and the original barracks. The brochure details the selection process, the lives cut short and the dimensions of the gas chambers, with testimonies illustrating each area.

After the visit to Birkenau, you’ll return to the coach for the journey back to Kraków, with arrival scheduled for late afternoon. This format gives you complete freedom to pause, reflect and take in each historical context, without rushing or being tied to a fixed timetable.
