Step by Step
Le Marais is one of the best neighbourhoods in Paris for understanding how French cuisine has gradually blended with the communities that have lived in the city for generations. During this walking tour, you’ll visit a series of small establishments whilst discovering both classic recipes and more unexpected flavours.
The experience begins with some of the great Parisian classics: a freshly baked butter croissant and artisan sourdough bread. From there, you’ll continue to the Marché des Enfants Rouges, considered the oldest covered market in Paris, where fresh produce and culinary offerings from different cultures come together.
The walk also takes you through the historic Jewish quarter of Le Marais, where you’ll sample a hot pastrami sandwich at a family-run bakery. Along the route, there’ll also be time to discover chocolates and sweets crafted by renowned artisans and to try a patisserie creation that blends French techniques with Syrian flavours.
Another stop will take you to a traditional Parisian bistro to enjoy a dish prepared from scratch, such as the classic French onion soup or another speciality of the day. The total amount of food on the tour is roughly equivalent to a full meal.
The tour concludes by exploring two staples of French cuisine: cheese and wine. You’ll sample a selection of artisan cheeses and visit a shop specialising in natural wines, thus rounding off a journey through some of Paris’s most iconic flavours.
