Step by Step

This tour of Prague Castle and the Castle District takes you to the political and spiritual heart of the Czech Republic, a place where more than 1,200 years of history have been written. The almost 70,000 m² complex brings together palaces, churches, courtyards and buildings from different periods and styles, making it the most visited monument in the country and one of the undisputed symbols of Prague.

The experience begins in the historic centre, on Křižovnické náměstí Square, where you will meet your guide, easily recognisable by an orange umbrella. From there you will start a romantic walk across the Charles Bridge, enjoying the Baroque sculptures, views of the Vltava River and a spectacular panorama of the castle in the background. This is the perfect introduction before climbing the hill.

After crossing the bridge, you'll take a break at your feet and take a tram up to Prague Castle, a short but photogenic ride. Once at the top, you will enter the courtyards and buildings of the complex, while your guide explains the keys to the royal past of the Czech lands and the most fascinating episodes of the country's turbulent history.

Inside the complex you will learn about the grandeur of the Gothic St. Vitus Cathedral, which was built over a period of almost 600 years. You will discover the crypt where the Czech kings are laid to rest, the room where the crown jewels are kept and the impressive mosaic of the Last Judgement that presides over the façade. The tour continues to the Old Royal Palace, the scene of diets, coronations and the famous Prague Defenestration, and St. George's Basilica, the oldest preserved church in the castle, linked to the historic Benedictine abbey.

Throughout the tour, your guide will show you other corners of the complex and the castle district, from courtyards and belvederes to charming narrow streets, while telling you legends, curiosities and anecdotes of court life. The tour culminates with one of the best views of Prague, perfect for taking photos and bidding farewell to the castle hill with an unforgettable panorama of rooftops, towers and domes.

The castle is beautiful, it has one of the most beautiful architectures I have seen in a long time. What didn't convince me were the surroundings, they are very nice, but they fall a little short of such a castle.

It is impressive how well preserved the castle is, I imagined a place more decayed by the passage of time, but I found something completely different.
